After facing defeat in Damoh Assembly bypoll in MP, the BJPâs state unit has issued a show-cause notice to former minister Jayant Malaiya for indulging in âanti-party activitiesâ and suspended the primary membership of his son and 5 mandal presidents, a party functionary said on Saturday. The Congress on Sunday retained the Damoh Assembly seat with the party candidate Ajay Tandon defeating his former colleague and nearest BJP rival Rahul Singh Lodhi by a margin of 17,097 votes.

New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic had caught West Bengal like many other states "in a devastating situation" and the state needs support in terms of supply of oxygen, medicines, vaccines and ramping up of hospital beds.
USCP did not specify precisely how many threats have been made to members of Congress of this year, nor did it note the nature or seriousness of the reported instances.
In response to the growing threats, the agency said it supports recommendations proposed by its Office of the Inspector General, or OIG, its internal watchdog, included in its latest “flash report.”
Of the 10 recommendations, USCP said it believes the most impactful are ones specific to increasing its threat assessment manpower and establishing a stand-alone counter-surveillance entity.
“The USCP agrees a stand-alone counter-surveillance unit would be valuable,” USCP said. “However, in order to fully implement this recommendation, the Department would require additional resources for new employees, training and vehicles as well as approval from Congressional stakeholders.”
